Sustainability at Unitus – Unitus Earns LEED Silver Certification for Sustainability

(2 Minute Read) — At Unitus, we believe in doing the right thing for our members, our employees, and our planet. That’s why we’re proud to share that the Unitus Business Center (UBC)-Tigard has earned a LEED Silver Certification—an achievement that reflects our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

What is LEED Certification?

LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is the world’s most widely recognized green building rating system, created by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). It sets rigorous standards for energy efficiency, water conservation, air quality, and sustainable materials. Achieving LEED certification isn’t just about checking boxes—it’s about creating spaces that are healthier, more efficient, and better for the planet.

Building a Greener Future at UBC-Tigard

Sustainability is woven into the design of UBC-Tigard. In collaboration with our partners at Momentum, we integrated several environmentally friendly features to earn our LEED Silver certification:

  • Cleaner Air Indoors – Advanced ventilation systems improve airflow and reduce pollutants, helping everyone breathe easier.
  • Smarter Energy Use – LED lighting and energy-efficient building systems help us use less electricity while keeping our spaces bright and comfortable.
  • Healthier Materials – We chose paints, adhesives, and other building materials with low emissions to support a healthier work environment.

Protecting the Natural Spaces Around Us

UBC-Tigard isn’t just a building—it’s part of a larger ecosystem. Our campus sits next to five acres of wetlands, which we’ve committed to protecting in partnership with The Wetlands Conservancy. In December 2024, members of our leadership team toured the wetlands, assessing their health and identifying opportunities for restoration. We also awarded The Wetlands Conservancy a $25,000 Community Impact Grant to support conservation efforts, improve access, and educate the community about the importance of these ecosystems.

Committed to Sustainability, Now and in the Future

At Unitus, sustainability isn’t a one-time initiative—it’s part of who we are. Whether through responsible building practices, preserving natural spaces, or supporting local organizations making a difference, we’re always looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact while making life better for our members and communities.

UBC-Tigard’s LEED Silver certification is just one step in our journey, and we’re excited to continue finding new ways to build a greener, more sustainable future together.
